A home in the making!
May 2nd 2006
As you may or may not know I have recently adopted my first Silkstone *happy dance*
Well as every good dolly mum knows, these are not just any doll and require a suitable setting in which to reside.
So while waiting for my girl to arrive I have cleared an entire shelf just for her...That is right I now have 5 MIB's to find a new display area for.

Anyway this page for now is dedicated to the process of converting the space from plain old shelf to luxurious boudoir fit for a Silkstone.
Money for dollies is tight so most of what I do is going to be on a budget and home made by me...At lest for now *wink*
Before:
This is the couch from the Victorian Barbie House...Your Standard White Plastic Barbie Furniture.
After:
Using black matt spray paint, I gave the couch a couple of coats. Then I added the beautiful brocade fabric as slip covers....Why slip covers and not glue the fabric on...Simple..I want to be able to change the color scheme of my dollhouse when ever the mood should take me lol
Test Run:
Of course we need to try it out for size....Jesse here was happy to oblige....After all that dancing she need to sit a spell.

You may have noticed the painting behind the couch...This is one of my own paintings. The rug is a mini printable (thnx for the tip Jeff)

The couch is not totally finished...I am going to add a fringe skirt to it and other small details.
I also braved the bottom of my daughters closet...She is now 13 and no longer in need of her barbie's (so she thinks) well that isn't fair...She does have a nice collection of display dolls herself...but has not played with her barbie's for about 4yrs.
Anyway your wondering how me braving a teenagers closet is relevant...I found lots of little goodies I intend to put to good use....The couch was just one of them. As this page develops you will see what I mean.
But for now...This is as far as I have gotten...My girl should arrive tomorrow or the next day...I don't know if I can wait that long lol.

Went shopping for items for our room today...Did pretty good...Got nearly everything on my list. I picked up the wrong size glue sticks for my gun so for now everything is either taped or pinned in place. lol

We added the window treatment..or should a say balcony...I am going to come back and add to this later, give our girl a beautiful view.

Also we have wallpapered...I choose this paper because it had fairly neutral tones but the pattern has an old world charm.
Need crown molding!!!

Added a nice vase of flowers as a welcoming gift to our girl...DUE TO ARRIVE TODAY!!!
OHNO!! She arrived but her new clothes haven't...I rummaged thru some removed clothing I have on hand from de boxed and made over dolls...Found her a cute little 2 piece spring ensemble to wear until we have something more suitable. I have no idea from whom this outfit came from or even wear...It seems to be bran new... Perhaps I got it when I was looking for shoes lol.
Allow me to introduce you to the lady of the house

CLARE
She is a Chinoiserie Red Moon
Silkstone Barbie

One more little problem...We are running behind schedule on the renovation..still tools laying around....Just like in a real life construction crew lol

Hmmm.....Wonder what Clare makes of all this.

Well sit back and relax and let momma work on this problem.

So I quickly whipped up a comforter to go on the bed (old pink label box hehe) and Clare is taking a nap to recover from her long journey from Bloomington IN.

Later when I get the right size glue sticks this bed will have a canopy over it.

What a beautiful morning. Mom was able to find the time to whip me up a lovely asian inspired lounging suit...Just a little something comfortable to wear while I relax and read a book or enjoy the view.

She tells me once she is done with cleaning her house, she is going to work on the canopy for over the bed...I can hardly wait.

Little technical note: I am having a hard time photographing the fabric of the couch...It is infact a burgandy...perfect match to the tiebacks on the curtains...But in every pic looks red...hmmm...I am going to try adding some pink throw pillows to it, to try and bring out the Burgundy color more.

Also behind the curtains to the balcony has turned out to be a very handy spot to store Clare's display stand when it is not in use.

Wow what a busy day mom has had.
She drove into the city with dad to go shopping...She got what she need to make my bed and canopy...No more sleeping on a "pink box" for me.

My "Silkstone Beauty Rest" bed as we have named it, is made from styrofoam blocks, cut to size and covered in black "sheets" with a green ruffle on the bottom block. The canopy is more styrofoam, dowel and fabrics.

I think she did a good job, don't you?

See the tutorlia on how to make this bed.
Did you notice my PJ's arrived today also.
Just in time to test out my bed.

Mom also tells me that today while shopping she got some awesome fabrics to start making me some pretty dresses.
Well it has been a long busy day and tomorrow we are adding the crown molding.

So I should get some rest while I can.

Goodnight.

Wow mom has been super busy the last couple of weeks. The phone never seems to stop ringing.

But there has been a couple of exciting developements...The living room furniture arrived. You can see a little of it in these pics...Just a sneak peek while we tried them out for size in the bedroom lol.

And we have a view from the balcony now.
Mom FINALLY found time to make me a couple of outfits also.
As you can see, a cute little pink and lace suit.

Would you be interested in an
Exclusively 4 Clare MGD Fashion line?

And a really smart skirt and top set.
Oh and it has the cutest little purse to go with it.

Though I think I may have to share these, there was some murmurings about some scottish chick coming to live with me...Hmmmm.
